I can't believe that I made it to week 5 of the 6 week online course in Wholehearted living!
Brené Brown, (PhD - Expert in Vulnerability, Shame and how Imperfection leads to Joy!), has been leading this course that I bravely signed up for it - and bought the required journal, art supplies (yes, of course I had stuff at home, but it's always fun to buy more!!!), and the book "The Gifts of Imperfection" (yes, also by Brené)...

I didn't know what to expect, except that it had to do with Art Journaling and finding a way to live wholeheartedly! Hmm... what does that mean? Well, for me, it meant a way to learn more about who I am, how I function when things get tough, what my normal coping mechanisms are, and how I can make some minor adjustments so that live flows better, tastes better, and feels joyful!
What I love about this online course is that Brene gets up in front of the camera, in her own artsy workspace (she's a research psychologist by trade), and tells real details of her imperfect life. It's very inspiring to know she is struggling just as much as the rest of us, and by being vulnerable and authentic she is such an amazing teacher!
Last week, we worked on numbing - ha ha ha - that's my particular field of expertise! And so, it took me a few days to go ahead and work on the assignment... Resistance - yes, indeed! But finally I completed the last part of the assignment - my Comfort List - that I can revisit and remind myself of when I am reaching for that B&J ice cream, or the popcorn in the pantry, or when I'm about to start a fight with one of my friends or family... (I too was surprised that anger and rage are also ways of numbing). It's not instead of therapy - it's complementary to it - and so far I feel like I've learned so far, and grown tons in only 4 weeks time! Thank you #OLCBreneCourse!
